The project is a congestion of typologies reflective of the diversity of
Toronto Islands visitors. The basin is a common typological denominator
across cultures — either by itself, or conjunctive with other bathing
spaces —in the act of cleansing. A bisecting basin corridor rigourously
orients and negotiates between a sequence of rituals personified by
“gardens.” This procession occurs within rigid bounds that contract
purposeful movement and compress cultural expressions into a
collectivizing singular experience.
